What Defines Faith

FAITH:

How do I get Faith?

"So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17

What defines Faith?

Saving faith includes knowledge, agreement, and trust.

  1. Knowledge
    • Knowing/believing Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins.
    • John the Baptist said in John 1:29 , "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world!"
    • The sins of the entire world—past, present, and future—have already been forgiven.
    • "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God didn't send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him. He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn't believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God." John 3:16-18
  2. Agreement
    • We agree that we can not earn salvation on our own no matter how “good” we are.
    • "For there is no partiality with God." Romans 2:11 WEB
    • God has done His part by giving His Son, Jesus.
    • His grace has provided everything through the sacrifice of Jesus.
    • Our part is simple: We respond to His grace by faith and agree/receive/apply what has already been accomplished.
  3. Trust
    • We trust in things we don't fully understand all the time. “How can this huge plane ever get off the ground?”, yet we board. “How can this phone connect without a telephone line?”, yet we hear the voice. For some reason, when it comes to God, what we don't understand fully is easier to dismiss or put off until it's too late.
    • " Every word of God is pure: he is a shield to them that put their trust in him." Proverbs 30:5
    • "Trust in the LORD with all thy heart; and lean not to thy own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will direct thy paths. Be not wise in thy own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. " Proverbs 3:5-7

God has already done His part; it is now up to you and I to receive the truth by faith and make it a reality in our lives.

What is the Sinner's Prayer for Salvation?

The sinners prayer is a common Christian term for a prayer that is said when someone wants to repent of their sin, ask God for forgiveness, and verbally state their belief in the life, death, and saving resurrection of Jesus Christ.

"For, if with your lips you acknowledge the truth of the message that JESUS IS LORD, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with their hearts people believe and so attain to righteousness, while with their lips they make their Profession of faith and so find salvation." Romans 10:9-10

Christ's death on the cross paid in full the debt of our sin. Action must be taken to take hold of the gift.

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and there is nothing that I can do to save myself. I confess my complete helplessness to forgive my own sin or to work my way to heaven through any good works. At this moment I trust Christ alone and receive by faith all Grace purchased by Jesus as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross. I believe that He did all that will ever be necessary for me to stand in your holy presence. I thank you that Christ was raised from the dead as a guarantee of my own resurrection. As best as I can, I now transfer my trust to Him and by my faith take hold of His grace and love for me. I am grateful that He has promised to receive me despite my many sins and failures. Thank you for your word that will guide me as to how I should live my remaining days. Please grant me the wisdom to discern correctly and motivation to grow my faith, obedience, understanding, appreciation, and love for you. Thank you for your Grace and mercy that I do not deserve. Thank you that my salvation is not based on my level of performance in my short life but in my receiving what your victory on the cross did pay for. Thank you that I can receive by my faith alone, your glorious gift of salvation. Thank you for hearing this prayer and for saving me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
